Design
A farmhouse in Rajasthan lives outdoors as much as in. The design begins not with the building but with the land — where the shade falls, where the breeze comes from, and how the family will move between sun and cool through a long, hot day.
The courtyard is the oldest and still the smartest device in this climate. A shaded central court pulls cooler air through the house, gives every room a protected outlook, and becomes the heart of family life. Deep verandahs, jaalis and thick masonry walls extend that comfort, cutting heat before it ever reaches the interior.
Material choice is climate strategy. Local stone and lime plaster hold the cool, weather beautifully and belong to the region; earthy, muted palettes sit quietly in the landscape rather than fighting it. Where glazing faces the sun, it is shaded — never left to bake.
The result should feel rooted, not imported: a home that borrows the intelligence of traditional Rajasthani building and pairs it with modern comfort, open planning and clean detailing. That balance — local wisdom, contemporary ease — is what makes a farmhouse feel both timeless and effortless to live in.
